In a magnificent Highland setting, secluded but not isolated, and just a 50-minute drive from Inverness with its airport and station, lies superb Highland Lodge. If your dream of a Highland holiday consists of dramatic scenery, mountains, waterfalls, deer and eagles - then this is the perfect place.
This warm and welcoming lodge is situated at the head of Strathglass, one of the most beautiful glens in the Highlands, and is just a short walk from two of Scotland's highest waterfalls and a 15-minute drive from the famously wild and beautiful Glen Affric. Hill walkers, cyclists, anglers and birdwatchers will find this a paradise.
There are two four-poster bedrooms with fine views, and the 35-foot long drawing room is spacious and light. Included in the rental is fishing on two lochs with small sandy beaches, and there is a spate burn bordering the park. Access to the lochs requires an off-road 4x4 vehicle.
Churchill learned to drive on the estate and private roads around the picturesque ruin of Guisachan House, where golden retrievers were first bred, and where Trollope and, more recently, Iris Murdoch, based scenes in their novels.
The Tomich Hotel is either a short drive or a good walk and offers quality food and a snug bar to enjoy a whisky. A little bit further is the Glass Restaurant with its roaring log fire and beer garden.
Golfers will find the most picturesque course in the Highlands just a 20-minute drive away, and the popular town of Beauly, with its excellent restaurants and shops, is just a half hour drive.
Loch Ness, a 30-minute drive to the east, is Scotland's deepest loch and home to the famous 'Nessie'. Sailings can be booked on the loch, and there is a marina and boat hire.
A cook can be arranged for your stay, as can additional housekeeping. Stalking during the season can also be arranged.
