This traditional self-catering Scottish farmhouse is a brilliant family home for those parties with children of all ages. Set in tranquil Strathdearn, this secluded property overlooks river and woodland, yet is only 14 miles south of Inverness and 16 miles north of Aviemore. Ideally situated for touring the Highlands, and a good choice for a winter holiday, this country farmhouse is only a short drive to one of Scotland’s most popular ski resorts in the Cairngorm Mountains near Aviemore.
There is a wealth of activities from which to choose to satisfy all age groups. Close to home, an excellent pub restaurant in the village of Tomatin serves very good food. You might also like to visit the Tomatin Distillery Visitor Centre, where you can take a tour and sample some of their exclusive malt whisky.
Visit the many castles, see the wolves at the Highland Wildlife Park, or take the children to the famous Landmark Centre with its exciting flume rides. Loch Ness is only a 30-minute drive, and the Loch Ness Monster Visitor Centre at Drumnadrochit is open throughout the year. Urquhart Castle is open during the season, and it is possible to sail down the loch, either during the day or on an evening cruise.
Winter sports at Aviemore and the Cairngorms can be enjoyed at their best in January and February and, after a day on the ski slopes, what could be better than to return to your holiday cottage and a roaring log fire.
For those who are seeking a more peaceful break, the immediate area is one of tranquil beauty, with hills, forests and natural silver birch woodland ideal for walking and cycling.
Stalking and shooting can be arranged in the area but prior notice is required for this. Good fishing on the River Findhorn can be arranged with the owner.
A large farmhouse kitchen (with table for 12) enjoys peaceful views across the Findhorn Valley through French doors and is the perfect place to gather together. The large garden, fenced and gated, is a safe place for children to play.
