Formerly a fishing lodge for the Skibo Estate, Achinduich Lodge is now a self-catering holiday home. This fine, family-friendly lodge is situated on the high road above the Falls of Shin (“the best place in Scotland to see salmon leaping”).
The lodge commands lovely views over the surrounding hills and forests, with gardens and a paddock providing spacious grassy play areas for children: as this is a 'pets welcome' house, you can bring the family dog along with you to enjoy the same freedom.
This is a large holiday home for 14, with ten people being accommodated in the main house and a further four in the wood-panelled annexe. There are three Z-beds and two hideaway beds which can accommodate five younger children in existing bedrooms. The interior is relaxed and homely, with all the necessary requirements for a comfortable family holiday, including a good-sized playroom with darts, board games and family videos.
Achinduich Lodge is ideally situated for exploring the magical wilderness of Sutherland, the superb beaches and mountains of the west and north coasts, and the excellent golf courses and beaches of the east.
Inverness, with airport and extensive shopping, is just over an hour's drive to the south.
There is some very good fishing in the area, for both salmon and trout, and sea fishing is also possible. There is excellent hill walking in the immediate area, and spectacular west coast mountains and beaches less than an hour's drive away.
Dornoch, with its beautiful Cathedral and one of the finest sandy beaches on the east coast, is just a 25-minute drive. Royal Dornoch golf course offers some of the best golf in Scotland, and there are several other good courses in the area.
