With the most spectacular views across Oban and out to the islands, this fine town house is ideal for a family holiday in Oban, one of Scotland's most attractive holiday towns. Queen Victoria is noted as saying, "We declare Oban to be one of the finest places we have ever seen!"
Reray looks down across the rooftops of Oban, out across the harbour and away across the sea to the Isle of Mull, and yet is not itself immediately overlooked.
The Victorian house has been refurbished to offer a high standard of accommodation, which is elegant yet comfortable, and has retained some original features, including stained glass windows and original woodwork.
With three bathrooms and a large sitting/dining room, two families would find sharing very easy and relaxing.
Oban offers plenty of visitor attractions for all ages and interests, and the leisure centre/swimming pool is within walking distance.
Good shopping is within a 5-minute walk, as are plenty of restaurants and hotel bars, including the new, trendy yet child-friendly fish and pizza restaurant on the North Pier looking out to sea, which is only a 10-minute walk from Reray.
McCaig's Tower, like a mini Coliseum, is a short walk from the house, and is a great place for picnics and to enjoy the panorama of the west coast and islands.
The Oban Sealife Centre is fascinating and just a 15-minute drive from Reray. Sailings from Oban to the islands can be achieved easily in a day, including the now famous 'Balamory' (Tobermory).
There are day trips to the Isle of Lismore, where there is an excellent seafood restaurant at the ferry point. It is also possible to visit the sacred isle of Iona with its ancient Abbey and burial ground, lovely white sand beaches and long coast walks.
Other points of interest include Oban Distillery, and atmospheric steam boat trips on the beautiful Loch Awe to Kilchurn Castle.
The owners have a mooring on Loch Awe if you wish to bring a boat, and have fishing rights on the loch, so no need for a permit and all included in the rental.
The west coast here is wonderful in scenery and gardens that benefit from the mild climate. The spectacular mountains of Glencoe are less than an hour's drive.
