Spey Cottage is one of a unique cluster of distillery cottages, which were built at the time of the Chivas Tomore Distillery next door. The cottages are B-listed and immaculately maintained, most of them now being holiday cottages. There are 12 cottages in total, built around a crescent: Spey Cottage is number 4 and has off-road parking immediately outside the door.
The setting is classic Spey countryside with lush green fields, rolling hills, wide rivers and wooded copses. Chivas Tomore Malt Whisky Distillery is just along the road and is one of many on the Malt Whisky Trail.
The cottage has been completely refitted to provide an exceptionally well-appointed interior, which is tastefully decorated and furnished in a contemporary style. It is very child-friendly, so ideal for those with young children.
The rear garden is lawned and there is a paved area with table and garden furniture. There is secure storage for sports equipment, such as skis and bikes.
Tomore is situated roughly half-way between Aberlour and Grantown-on-Spey. Both towns have a good range of shops for the visitor, and Aberlour has a fabulous old-fashioned delicatessen.
The area offers a wide range of leisure opportunities, including skiing at the Lecht and Cairngorm, and mountaineering in some of Scotland's most dramatic ranges.
Inverness, with its airport, is a 1¼-hour drive away; Aviemore, the centre for winter sports in Scotland, is just 25 miles away, and this whole area of the Cairngorms National Park opens up a huge range of outdoor pursuits.
The Moray coast has fine sandy beaches at Spey Bay, Hopeman, Findhorn and Nairn. The Malt Whisky Trail starts almost at the door, and the nearby Glenlivet Estate, home of the famous distillery, has a number of well-marked and maintained walks which offer the chance to enjoy wonderful views. For those who love history and tradition, there are many castles to visit on the Castle Trail, starting with Ballindalloch Castle just down the road, which is one of the most beautiful and romantic castles in Scotland.
There is a small shop 5 minutes' drive away that provides basics and a good choice of wine.
